Midwest Cancer Alliance (MCA) Partners Advisory Board


Background


Purpose

To assist with the pursuit of National Cancer Institute designation by demonstrating research and education collaboration amongst key hospitals and research institutions for the benefit of the region.

Functions

Assist with the pursuit of National Cancer Institute designation by demonstrating research and education collaboration of key hospitals and research institutions for the benefit of the region, the University of Kansas and the State of Kansas.

  • Provide input for the strategic planning for NCI-designation.
  • Provide input on research programs leveraging unique regional strengths
  • Assist with and offer advice on philanthropic plans to support the University of Kansas’ ten year cancer strategic plan
  • Evaluate potential joint strategic investments of a scale that require collaboration (example: Proton Beam Therapy).

Governance

The MCA Partners Advisory Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of the University of Kansas Cancer Center and the Chief Executive Officer of the Midwest Cancer Alliance.  The Chief Executive Officer of each health care and research institution serves as the member of the MCA Partners Advisory Board.  The board is chaired by Gary Sherrer, former lieutenant governor of Kansas.  Each member serves as an equal partner with rights and responsibilities regarding research, education, philanthropy and community benefit.
